Did you know…
Hornbills can pluck food from the branches while they are flying?

Hornbills are omnivorous and eat both plants and animals. In the wild, they eat a lot of fruit, but also insects, snails, crabs, frogs, nestling birds, bats and lizards.

Hornbills nest in holes and while the female is sitting on the eggs, she will seal herself into the nest, leaving a small slit through which the male can bring her food.

Did you know…
The males are always more brightly coloured than the females?

To prove his worth as a mate, a male hornbill will feed the female during courtship to show what a good provider he is.

Hornbills are thought to live up to 20 years.
